The UK government has announced its intention to appoint Ofgem as the regulator for Third Party Intermediaries (TPIs) — a long-awaited move that will bring greater structure, accountability, and fairness to the UK energy procurement market.
For years, parts of the TPI sector have operated with little oversight. Hidden fees, undisclosed commissions, and supplier bias have too often left businesses in the dark, damaging trust and putting responsible intermediaries at a disadvantage.
By empowering Ofgem to set clear rules, enforce compliance, and investigate malpractice, the government is signalling a shift toward full transparency and professionalism in the industrial and commercial energy space.
Once regulation takes effect, businesses can expect:
• Full disclosure of all charges and commissions
• Competitive and transparent tendering across all suppliers
• An end to unfair contract lock-ins
• Like-for-like comparisons of procurement services and fees
At Enerbiz, we believe this change is not just necessary — it’s overdue. In fact, we’re already doing what Ofgem will soon require.
Enerbiz is one of the first TPIs in the UK to show commission rates and all fees upfront. Our clients know exactly what we earn, how we’re paid, and which suppliers we’re comparing. Nothing is hidden, and nothing is added later.
We’re building a model of total transparency, backed by:
• Clear pricing and documentation
• Equal treatment of all suppliers — no preferential deals
• Fair client contracts with no hidden tie-ins
• Robust data protection and compliance controls
• Ongoing governance and training for our team
Our approach is designed to rebuild trust in energy procurement. We work closely with clients to align procurement strategy with their financial, energy, and sustainability goals — helping them achieve real long-term savings and confidence in every decision.
Ofgem’s regulation marks a turning point for the industry, but for Enerbiz, it’s simply a reflection of how we already operate: with honesty, fairness, and full transparency from the start.
Additional note:
Enerbiz is committed to supporting Ofgem’s new framework by sharing best practice guidance, publishing transparent case studies, and helping clients understand exactly how procurement costs are structured. We will also continue to collaborate with suppliers and regulatory bodies to ensure our standards exceed all future compliance requirements.
